Mission

Enable children in underprivileged areas around the world to receive access to quality education through digital solutions.

About

"Once you learn to read, you will be forever free." — Frederick Douglass

There is a LEARNING CRISIS worldwide. 330 million children are in school but are failing to learn. 250 million children cannot read. —Amel Karboul. The Global Learning Crisis – TED Talks, Nov 3, 2017

Research clearly shows that investments in early childhood education pay off in societal benefits. Education begins from learning to read and studies have confirmed the importance of reading aloud to kids right from birth. A "million word gap" exists for children who aren’t read to at home, that is how many fewer words some children may hear by the time they enter kindergarten. There has also been evidence showing the positive benefits of reading on behavior and attention.

English is the global language of commerce and the lack of access to high quality educational resources should not be the factor determining the children’s success. Unfortunately, many families and schools have no books for children to read.

Foundation for Accessible Children’s Education (FACE) is a non-profit that was founded with the objective of using innovative technology solutions to make reading and literacy accessible for elementary school students and young children around the world. FACE identifies schools and children in underprivileged areas around the world and enables them to receive access to quality education through digital solutions.

FACE engages with donors, philanthropists, foundations, non-profits, corporate sponsors who care about the education of young children and believe that education is the key to a better world.

Impact

Namibia - Nationwide Access

Foundation for Accessible Children's Education selects Namibia to receive the sponsorship of nationwide access to a digital reading app for young children. Namibia was selected from several other African countries that had applied online for Africa Access 2020. The significant factor in selection of Namibia was its high expenditure on education as a percentage of the GDP. The digital reading app aims to assist and supplement what kids are taught in school, help children from disadvantaged backgrounds to improve their English reading resulting in better outcomes in school and better chances of completing higher education, thus closing the digital divide. The Namibia Reads app is meant to strengthen the efforts of the Ministry of Education, Arts & Culture in line with the nation's fifth National Development Plan (NDP5) to focus on building a strong foundation in numeracy and literacy, while promoting critical thinking and information literacy through providing enrichment programs in schools and libraries. The app was launched on March 21, 2020, Namibia's Independence Day and comes at the right time where learners are mostly confined to their homes and unable to visit their schools or public libraries due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Parho Punjab Parhao Punjab - Classroom Solution

Although India is home to some of the most brilliant minds in the world, there are millions of children who do not have access to good basic education. The educational standard of government elementary schools in rural areas is not improving as per expectations. In an attempt to transform India’s public education system aimed at bringing in qualitative improvement in the teaching and learning process Foundation for Accessible Children’s Education (FACE) is enabling the introduction of digital classrooms, for all pre-primary and primary classes to enable young children to receive high quality education. This education initiative, a public-private partnership is run and monitored by NRIs and local state government under the Parho Punjab, Parhao Punjab initiative by the Punjab Education Department launched by Punjab’s Education secretary, Krishan Kumar. NavanShahar is the first district to launch this solution. It is set to be rolled out to all the 22 districts in Punjab, about 12908 elementary schools, in a phased manner.
